This massive convertible is a very rare Oldsmobile 98 and one of only 4004 examples built that year. In 1964, the top of the line 98-series was offered in six body styles including 2-doors, 4-doors and convertible configurations. The list of standard equipment was huge : Roto Hydramatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and seats, windshield washer, special wheel discs, map lights, and padded dash. The Olds is powered by a 394 ci. (6500 ccm) ultra high compression Rocket V8 , producing 325 bhp. Dimensions of this cruiser are rather impressive as well : it has a wheelbase of 3200 mm, an overall length of 5646 mm and a total width of 1981 mm. This is a proper American sixties cruiser to cover long distances.
This car was purchased by its actual owner in 2009, and well maintained and used since. It has a belgian registration, and comes with a lot of documentation including an original manual and the full collection of 1964 workshop books. It is in good technical condition, but would benefit from a repaint. The electrically operated convertible soft top is in beautiful and works faultlessly. The interior is also in a lovely condition, finished in period correct vinyl and great colour combination.
An Oldsmobile 98 is a genuine six-passenger car that rides like a dream and would make an excellent long distance cruiser. Only a few are imported into Europe, and it is even in America a very rare car. It's definitely a lot of car for the money, and a great eye-catcher wherever you park it (if you find the space...).
