Suzuki wanted to recreate their sporting image, and showed the Cappuccino for the first time at the 1989 Tokyo Motorshow. The Cappuccino was originally intended for the Japanese market only. It was designed to meet the Kei-car specification for reduced tax : body shorter then 3,30 metres, body width less then 1,40 meteres and engine size of maximum 0,66 litres. The car received loads of positive reactions - also in Europe - and Suzuki GB requested the Japanese headquarter to launch the Cappuccino also on the British market. Finally in 1992, the european specification Cappuccino was ready and had it first public appearance outside Japan at the Birmingham Motorshow. It won the award for best car of the show, and one year later the car was available to the public at a price of 11,995 GBP. In total, 1,110 cars were sold in the UK, and another 70 examples were delivered in Continental Europe. This makes the Cappuccino an incredibly rare car on the European market, and quite sought after by collectors.
This example is a European specification car, with odometer in km/u and RHD steering just like every other Cappuccino. It has only covered 41.370 km from new and comes with full Suzuki service history. It is in pristine condition, and probably one of the finest examples in existence. Driving this wonderful little thing is a real delight. The turbocharged 3-cilinder engine produces 66 bhp accompanied by a lovely soundtrack. With a weight of only 725 kg, the Cappuccino reaches 100 km/u in 8 seconds : this is a proper pocket rocket ! It can be driven as a coupé, a Targa style convertible or full convertible. The panels can be stowed in the boot, and the rollbar folds neatly away behind the front seats. It is an incredibly funny car to drive, and an eye-catcher first class !
This Japanese sportscar - built in very limited numbers - is so much value for money. It puts a huge smile on your face when you drive it, and also when you look at it. This stylish and affordable roadster comes with a Belgian registration, and can be registered in any European country. A very rare motorcar and a proper future classic. Are you the lucky one who will enjoy the summer with this little Cappuccino ?
