The XK140 is the rarest and most sought after car of the Jaguar XK range. It combines the pure body lines of the XK120 with the technically more advanced chassis set up of the later XK150. This more refined model has rack and pinion steering, which results in more precise steering and a much more comfortable driving position. With only 2678 XK140 FHC built, this model is quite rare as well !
This particular example is an SE version from new, delivered to its first owner in september 1956. The car came in 2006 to Luxembourg as a very sound project car, and was nut-and-bolt restored by its then owner. No expenses were spared, and the quality level of this restoration is very high. The interior is a piece of art, with correctly trimmed seats and headlining, and the most shiny walnut veneer one can imagine. There is also a wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel fitted, which works fine with the recently installed EZ electrically assisted steering, although the original steering wheel is still with the car. The engine is replaced by a more powerful 3,8 Litre version, which looks exactly the same as the Original 3,4 Litre, but just offers better performance. The overhauled Moss gearbox is the slickest I have ever experienced, and driving this Coventry Cat really is a pure pleasure. Shutlines on this car are very good, and the fit and finish of the complete body is probably better as when it left the factory. The quality of the paintwork is first class, and the BRG paint goes very well together with the tan hide interior. The XK140 has only done 6.550 km since this restoration, and it shows. The chromed wire wheels look like new, and the period correct Michelin Pilote X tyres in similar condition.
I don't believe there is a better XK140 FHC for sale at the moment, and if you fancy such a Jaguar with its beautiful shape and splendid performance then I can only advice a testdrive with this exceptional example. Even with high expectations, it won't be a disappointment !
