If you have ever visited the Goodwood Revival, you must have been as impressed as we were when we saw the Jaguars Mk1 going sideways in every corner during the Saint-Mary's Trophy races. The most famous one is of course BUY1, which was successfully raced by Roy Salvadori. Other well known Mk1 racers were Mike Hawthorn (who tragically lost his life in the same car which he raced : VDU881), Tommy Sopwith, Ron Flockhart and Duncan Hamilton. It was during one of these Goodwood Revival meetings that we decided to build our own Mk1 racing car, with the intention to use it for the odd trackday and eventually enter the car in the FIA Historic Touring Car Championship.
This Mk1 is build around a LHD 2,4 Litre donor car, delivered new in Belgium. We fitted the more powerful 3,4 Litre engine, in combination with a Moss 4-speed gearbox with overdrive. The complete car is constructed following FIA regulations, and with only small changes to brake callipers and suspension it should be possible to obtain FIA papers. These are the changes we did to the Mk1 to turn it in a racecar : FIA roll cage, FIA approved harness and racing seat, Sparco fire extinguisher, rain lights, towing eyes, GAZ shock absorbers front and rear, race alternator, foam filled aluminium fuel tank , twin Facet fuel pumps, oil catch tank, aluminium high efficiency radiator, SU HD8 carburettors, 2" air trumpets and Coombs aluminium air spreader, Tilton pedal box, Coopercraft front brakes, high friction brake pads and finally braided stainless steel brake hoses. The car has never been raced yet, and only a couple of testing miles are done. This is in fact a brand new old racing car...
It is the perfect starter historic racer for someone who wants to compete in one of the many championships, with lots of possibilities to improve the performance of the car to become one of the frontrunners.
